My 102-year-old friend

“I haven’t figured it all out yet”, she tells me. She’s 102. I’m 38. Now there’s perspective. “Are we supposed to figure it all out? I don’t think we are! Because, by my age…!”

It’s irreverent. It’s fun. She’s the first person to call me a fun chaplain. I couldn’t receive a higher accolade!

I went to see her because she’s Jewish. Some instinct popped up, or popped in, inside me. I was supposed to go into another unit, but I somewhat slyly snuck into hers.

At first she couldn’t hear me. But after getting in a groove together, it seemed…
